"The President settled on this choice dependent upon the trouble in pushing ahead with outside travel despite a shutdown, and his determination to keep pressing his case that Republicans may as well instantly permit a vote to revive the administration," White House press secretary Jay Carney said in a proclamation.
Obama was planned to withdraw for Indonesia for Asia-Pacific Economic Conference (APEC) on Saturday and afterward head to Brunei for the East Asia Summit. The White House advertised prior without much fanfare that Obama was crossing out visits to Malaysia and the Philippines that were planned to happen after the summits, on account of the shutdown.
